Description
What is Amias?
Amias is a prescription-only tablet that contains Candesartan Cilexetil as the active ingredient. It is a member of a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It is a widely used drug for hypertension.
How does it work?
Angiotensin is a protein that tightens the blood vessels during inflammation. This drug blocks the angiotensin receptors and promotes the relaxation and widening of the blood vessels, thus decreasing blood pressure. It also reduces the resistance in the blood vessels and helps the heart to pump blood more efficiently.
Is Amias suitable for me?
This drug is for you if you have high blood pressure (in all ages), if you are a heart patient with poor heart muscle function and when other drugs used to treat heart failure, e.g., angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, fail to give results. This medication is not recommended for kids less than 1 year of age.

When should I take Amias?
It can be taken at any time of the day, but it should be taken at the same time every day. It lowers the heartrate, so taking it in the morning will be more prudent because the heartrate naturally goes down at night.
Which food items do I need to avoid while taking Amias?
You are expected to avoid foods that can raise blood pressure, e.g., potassium supplements or drugs containing potassium. A higher potassium level can increase blood pressure.
Does Amias increase urine output?
Yes. It can cause an increase in urine output. It happens because it widens and relaxes the blood vessels, facilitating blood flow towards the organs and kidneys.
How long does Amias stay in the body?
The half-life of Candesartan is approximately 9 hours. However, the body can't eliminate it before 24 hours, after which you need to take another pill.
How quickly can Amias lower blood pressure?
The effects appear after 2 hours of taking the single dose. However, continuously stable blood pressure needs at least 4 weeks of regular use if you use it for prolonged periods.
How much reduction in blood pressure can be expected after taking 8mg of the drug?
The reduction in blood pressure is remarkable. The studies have noted that taking a single dose of 8mg can lower the diastolic blood pressure by as much as 8-9 mmHg.
Can take Amias cause liver damage?
It is an angiotensin II inhibitor. Regular use is linked with a low rate elevation in the serum aminotransferase. Its use is also linked with a mild increase in the risk of acute liver damage.
