Description

What is Ramipril?

Ramipril is a medicine that treats hypertension and other cardiovascular concerns such as heart failure and may also be prescribed after a heart attack. This medication may also be used to prevent future strokes or kidney problems from occurring and works to improve your heart function.

How does it work?

Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor medicine. ACE inhibitors relax and widen the blood vessels, which makes it easier for the blood to be pumped throughout the body. This medication also decreases your body's production of substances that might raise your blood pressure.

Is Ramipril suitable for me?

If you have high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, then this medication may be suitable for you. Consult with your doctor before beginning this medication as there are many underlying health concerns and medications that may interfere with Ramipril.

Can I have Ramipril and alcohol?

Drinking alcohol with Ramipril may make you feel dizzy or light-headed. If you are concerned about how much you can drink while you are taking ramipril, discuss this with your doctor as medicines used to reduce blood pressure and alcohol can have additive effects.

Is Ramipril a blood thinner?

No, Ramipril is not a blood thinner. Blood thinners are known as anticoagulants and work by interrupting the process involved in the formation of blood clots.

How long does it take for Ramipril to work?

Ramipril will usually begin to work within a few hours of taking the medication but will usually take several weeks to fully come into effect. Because high blood pressure does not have any symptoms, you may not feel any different when you take Ramipril.

What should I avoid when taking Ramipril?

Do not use salt substitutes such as Lo-Salt. This is because they're high in potassium. When mixed with ramipril, they may make the level of potassium in your blood too high.

The are no other foods or drinks you need to avoid while taking ramipril.

Eating well can help if you have high blood pressure or heart failure.
