What is Prometrium?

Prometrium is a hormone replacement therapy used to treat menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. It is also used to reduce the risk of developing endometrial hyperplasia resulting from estrogen imbalance. Prometrium works by providing progesterone, which helps regulate estrogen levels and ensure proper tissue growth in the uterus. In addition, it increases bone density and may be prescribed along with a type of estrogen to assist patients with osteoporosis. Many patients have found that taking Prometrium has improved their overall daily quality of life and enabled them to better manage their menopausal symptoms.

Side Effects

The following are examples of common side effects:
bloating,
nausea,
vomiting
discomfort or discharge from the breasts
headache and dizziness
mood changes,
sleep problems (insomnia)

The following serious adverse effects are possible:
depression, irritability, or mood swings;
jaundice (skin or eye yellowing);
swollenness, fast weight gain
eyesight issues;
breast lumps

Dosages

Prometrium is available in 100 mg pills. The usual starting dose is 200 mg at bedtime for ten consecutive days, beginning on the first day of your menstruation. The standard dose of Prometrium for secondary amenorrhea is 400 mg daily for 10 days. Prometrium may interact with blood thinners, according to St. Prometrium can enter breast milk and cause harm to a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed if you are on Prometrium.
