Side Effects

The following are typical Viracept side effects:

The following are serious side effects of Viracept:

extreme diarrhoea (bloody or watery stools),

flu-like symptoms such as a fever, chills, body aches, and mouth and throat sores;

Dosage and Administration

Viracept is offered as a tablet or oral solution. Adults are advised to take 750 mg twice daily. 350 mg/m2 twice daily is the recommended dosage for kids between the ages of 2 and 17.

Patients with renal or hepatic impairment may require dosage adjustments.

It is best to take Viracept with food.

Interactions

Other medications, particularly rifampin, St. John's wort, seizure medications, or antibiotics, may interact with viracept. Give your doctor a complete list of all the drugs and supplements you take. Viracept should only be used during pregnancy when prescribed. This medication is excreted in breast milk and could harm a nursing infant. Before breastfeeding, speak with your doctor. If you are allergic to nelfinavir, suffer from liver disease, or have a history of pancreatitis, you should not take this medication.
