Dosage

Adults typically take 10 mg of Vivactil 3–4 times per day. The maximum daily dose advised is 40 mg. Until a therapeutic response has been attained, doses may be raised by 5 mg/day at weekly intervals.

The starting dose for elderly and disabled patients is 5 mg three times daily, and the dosage should be modified to meet the needs of each patient.

The typical dose is 1-2 mg/kg/day in 2-3 divided doses for kids aged 6 and older. A maximum dose of 4 mg/kg/day or 150 mg/day, whichever is less, is advised.

Take your missed Vivactil dose as soon as you remember. Do not take the missed dose if your next dose is almost here.

Interactions

The following products may interact with this medication:

anticholinergics, including scopolamine, hyoscyamine, and glycopyrrolate

a few antipsychotics (like thioridazine and chlorpromazine),

carbon monoxide,

asparaginase,

a few blood pressure medications, including ciprofloxacin, clozapine, dasatinib, and MAOIs like phenelzine, linezolid, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine, and selegiline. Combining Vivactil with other sedative medications can exacerbate this effect.
