La berberina è un alcaloide isochinolinico giallo presente nella corteccia e nelle radici di diverse piante, tra cui il crespino, il sigillo d'oro e l'uva dell'Oregon, e ha una lunga storia di uso tradizionale nella pratica erboristica ayurvedica e cinese.
