Silymarin is het flavonolignancomplex uit mariadistelzaad, traditioneel gebruikt in Europa. Onder de voedingsstoffen met door de EFSA goedgekeurde claims dragen selenium, zink, vitamine E en vitamine A bij aan de bescherming van cellen tegen oxidatieve stress of aan de normale werking van het immuunsysteem, en draagt vitamine D bij aan het behoud van normale botten en spierfunctie.
