The Active Ingredient Is: Elderberry (Sambucus nigra)

Elderberry is a berry-derived herb commonly used in botanical supplements to support normal immune function.

This form is a concentrated elderberry extract sourced from Sambucus nigra for use in liquid herbal preparations.

What Does Elderberry Do?

Evidence suggests elderberry may support immune function and, in some studies, help reduce the length and severity of upper respiratory symptoms when used at traditional doses. Findings are described in clinical research involving elderberry preparations and their antioxidant properties. Dr. Zakay-Rones of the University of Helsinki reported notable effects on symptom duration in randomized trials.

It is recognised that elderberry contains polyphenols and anthocyanins that contribute to its functional profile in immune-related contexts, consistent with EFSA-style interpretations of berry extracts.

Gaia Herbs was selected as our partner for Black Elderberry Syrup because the brand’s well-established track record in pure, carefully sourced botanicals and its clear approach to quality. The manufacturer is widely recognised for its commitment to purity, sourcing, and ingredient traceability, which has earned Gaia Herbs a premium standing in the herbal supplement market.

Their manufacturing excellence is clear in a Certified Organic facility in North Carolina, hand-harvesting elderberries and subjecting every batch to independent screening for pesticides, microbes and heavy metals. This rigorous quality approach, along with ongoing purity testing and adherence to organic, non GMO and allergen free standards, positions Gaia Herbs as a leader in botanical manufacturing and quality control.

From a product perspective, Gaia’s Black Elderberry Syrup is highly concentrated and combined with vitamin C, aligning with our emphasis on potency, safety and clean additives. Our recommendation reflects the careful brand vetting performed by our team of medical experts and supported by our ingredient quality and purity standards, ensuring a trusted match for this supplement.
