Ingredient Quality, Purity & Certifications

At Welzo, ingredient quality forms the foundation of everything we do. Every nutrient, botanical extract and supplement ingredient featured on Welzo is carefully evaluated through a process that combines scientific testing, medical review and transparent documentation. This system is governed by the Welzo Expert Verified™ Program, which aligns with standards set by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and internationally recognised ISO frameworks.

Our goal is simple: to ensure that every product reaching customers is safe, authentic and supported by clinical evidence.

Medical and Scientific Oversight

The integrity of ingredient sourcing and testing is overseen by the Welzo Clinical and Scientific Board. The team is led by Dr Sameer Nakedar, MBBS, MRCGP, Chief Medical Officer, who supervises all ingredient evaluations and compliance with UK medical standards. Dr Zeeshan Afzal, PhD Nutrition Science leads the research and nutrition science division, reviewing data from clinical trials and peer-reviewed publications. Dr Mathilde Mbouck, MD, MSc Occupational Health ensures supplier practices meet occupational and consumer safety standards. Dr Blen Tesfu, MD conducts independent quality reviews of formulations and supplier audits. Quality testing and data validation are managed by Thomas Daniel, Head of QA & Analytics.

Together, this team provides the clinical and scientific leadership that supports Welzo

’s commitment to verified, safe and effective supplements.

Ingredient Sourcing and Supplier Vetting

Welzo works exclusively with manufacturers who hold verifiable global certifications. Each supplier must demonstrate Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance, ISO 9001 or ISO 22000 quality management systems, and traceable documentation for every ingredient batch. Before onboarding, suppliers undergo pre-approval audits, MHRA and FSA compliance checks, and ingredient verification through scientific analysis such as HPLC, GC-MS and ICP-MS. Supplier relationships are reviewed at least twice annually to ensure continuous compliance.

Further information on supplier and certification standards is available in the Supplement Quality Standards & Certifications Policy.

Ingredient Identity and Purity Testing

Each ingredient is authenticated through laboratory testing before entering production. Welzo’s partner laboratories are all UKAS-accredited and certified to ISO 17025 or ISO 15189 standards. Analytical techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography and mass spectrometry confirm ingredient identity, while microbiological testing ensures freedom from harmful pathogens. Certificates of Analysis confirm the composition, purity and potency of each ingredient and are stored within Welzo’s internal compliance database.

Purity and contaminant testing covers heavy metals, microbial contamination, solvent residues and pesticides. These measures ensure that every batch meets UK and EU safety specifications. A 2024 report from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities found that more than a quarter of unregulated supplements sold online failed basic quality checks. Welzo’s testing protocol is designed to eliminate this risk and maintain consumer protection.

Clinical Validation and Evidence Review

All ingredients approved for sale through Welzo are supported by clinical data. The medical and research team, led by Dr Zeeshan Afzal, reviews human trials, systematic reviews and EFSA-authorised health claims. Only ingredients with established efficacy and a proven safety record are used in Welzo supplements. The same standards apply to dosage accuracy and bioavailability. Examples include Vitamin D3, which is recognised by the NHS for immune and bone health; Creatine Monohydrate, supported by over fifty peer-reviewed studies; and Ashwagandha Extract, clinically studied for stress modulation and endurance.

Ethical and Sustainable Sourcing

Welzo’s suppliers must demonstrate compliance with the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, fair labour standards and environmental responsibility. Preference is given to suppliers with B-Corp certification or documented sustainable farming practices for botanical ingredients. All plant-based supplements are free from animal testing, and raw materials are traceable to their country of origin.

Ongoing Monitoring and Re-Verification

Quality does not end with approval. Ingredient batches are re-tested for purity and potency, and random sample checks are carried out throughout the year. Annual supplier re-certification ensures consistent quality standards, while any failed test results trigger immediate suspension and reporting to the MHRA under Welzo’s recall protocol. This continuous cycle of verification maintains integrity across the entire supply chain.

Transparency and Traceability

Each product listed on Welzo.com includes complete ingredient disclosure, dosage information and scientific references when available. All partner laboratories and pharmacies operate under UKAS or GPhC registration, and details can be found on the Pharmacy Information Page. Traceability extends from raw ingredient harvest to the finished product delivered to customers, providing complete visibility at every stage.

Doctor and Pharmacist Oversight

Welzo’s medical governance team ensures all ingredient data aligns with MHRA, NICE, EFSA and NHS guidance. Each new supplement is reviewed jointly by Dr Sameer Nakedar for medical governance, Dr Mathilde Mbouck for occupational safety and Thomas Daniel for analytical verification. This process combines medical, scientific and regulatory expertise to maintain the highest standard of consumer safety.
