UitverkochtUitverkochtFrequently Asked Questions
Do lice crawl out of your hair?
Head lice have no wings and do not fly or jump, but they can crawl or run through hair quickly. Most commonly, head lice are spread by direct head-to-head contact with an infested person
Does poor hygiene cause nits?
Getting head lice isn't a sign of poor hygiene or unclean surroundings. Head lice prefer clean hair to attach and lay their eggs. Another common misconception is that head lice can jump or fly from one person to another. Head lice only crawl, most often leading to transmission through direct head-to-head contact.
How long can lice live on a hairbrush?
Adult head lice can survive on a hairbrush for up to two days, and nits can survive for about a week. To kill lice and nits, you can soak hairbrushes in hot water that's at least 130°F (54.4°C) for 5–10 minutes.
Why do I keep finding nits but no lice?
Finding eggs (nits) without lice does not necessarily mean that there is an active infestation; nits can be found for months after lice are treated. Because lice lay eggs at the base of the hair shaft, the identification of nits within ¼ inch of the scalp suggests (but does not confirm) an active infestation.
