Side Effects of Provigil

The most typical Provigil side effects include:

headache,

dizziness,

nausea,

a lack of sleep (insomnia),

anxiety,

nervousness,

On some urine drug tests, provigil may result in false positive results. Inform the lab staff that you take modafinil if you submit a urine sample for drug testing.

Rarity:

Skin blistering, burning, crusting, dryness, or flaking are extremely uncommon (less than 0.01%).

Infrequent occurrence: Skin rashes caused by allergies, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis

Dosage of Provigil

Provigil is typically prescribed in doses of 200 mg once daily.

The suggested dose is 200 mg taken orally once daily as a single dose in the morning for people with OSA or narcolepsy.

For those who have SWD, a dose of 400 mg taken orally once daily, one hour before the start of their work shift, is advised.

If you have a modafinil or armodafinil (Nuvigil) allergy, you should avoid taking this medication.

Inform your doctor of any of the following to ensure that modafinil is safe for you:

- depression, anxiety, or thoughts of suicide;

- kidney illness;

- hypertension, cardiovascular disease, or a history of heart attacks;

a seizure

mental health issues; or

- abusing or being dependent on nicotine, drugs, or alcohol.

It is unlikely that modafinil will hurt an unborn child. If you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, let your doctor know.

If modafinil enters breast milk or if it could harm a nursing infant are unknown. Using this medication while nursing is not advised.

Interactions with Provigil

- contraceptive pills;

the drug clozapine (FazaClo);

cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, and Sandimmune);

- Lanoxin, or digoxin

- Lariam (mefloquine);

- Versed (midazolam), or

rifampin (brand names: Rimadin, Rimactane).

Mechanism of Action

It is unclear how precisely Provigil works. The brain's neurotransmitters, which nerves use to communicate with one another, are thought to be modulated in order for it to function.

Due to its potential for abuse and dependence, Provigil is classified as a schedule IV controlled substance.

Pharmacokinetics

Modafinil is quickly absorbed when taken orally. Modafinil tablets have a bioavailability rate of about 80%.

The liver uses the CYP3A4 isoenzyme to break down modafinil, which is then excreted in the urine as modafinil acid. After multiple doses, modafinil's elimination half-life is approximately 15 hours.
