Mirapex

A dopamine agonist, Mirapex (pramipexole), works by reestablishing the proper level of dopamine in the brain. Parkinson's disease is treated with mirapex. Other uses of Mirapex not covered in this medication guide are possible. If you are allergic to Mirapex or if any of the following apply to you:If you are allergic to Mirapex or if any of the following apply to you:- Your blood pressure is out of control;- you recently had a heart attack or have severe heart disease;- you are taking certain other medications, such as telithromycin, ketoconazole, nefazodone, or ritonavir.Inform your doctor of any of the following to ensure that Mirapex is safe for you:- congestive heart failure and heart disease;- a mini-stroke or stroke;reduced blood pressure;- Anxiety, depression, or another mental illness;

Side Effects

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives; trouble breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

If you experience any of the following:

- feeling dizzy and as though you might pass out;

- rapid or pounding heartbeats and a sudden feeling of vertigo;

- swollen fingers, ankles, or feet;

- experiencing breathlessness;

- confusion ordelusions; or

- uncontrollable facial movements, such as yawning, blinking, frowning, tongue movement, and chewing.

Dosages

standard adult dosage for Parkinson's

Mirapex should be started at an initial dose of 0.125 mg taken orally once daily before bed. After a week, the dosage may be raised by 0.125 mg to 0.25 mg if necessary.

Maintenance Dose: Following the onset of a sufficient response, the dosage of Mirapex should be gradually increased by 0.125 mg to 0.25 mg every one to two weeks until the ideal dosage is reached or side effects start to bother the patient. Given in divided doses (two or three times daily), the typical effective dose range is 1.5 mg/day to 4.5 mg/day.

Maximum Dose: 4.5 mg/day is the maximum dose that is advised.


Comment -The dosage of Mirapex should be gradually increased until the desired clinical effect is obtained or side effects become bothersome, at which point the dosage should be slightly decreased.-The dose of Mirapex should be lowered if a patient complains of bothersome daytime sleepiness or vivid dreams while taking the recommended amount.-Mirapex should be stopped if a patient starts to experience daytime sleepiness or nods off while engaging in activities that call for active participation (such as talking, eating, etc.).Uses: -Treatment of idiopathic Parkinson's disease symptoms and signs.A dopamine agonist, Mirapex (pramipexole), works by reestablishing the proper level of dopamine in the brain.Parkinson's disease is treated with mirapex.Other uses of Mirapex not covered in this medication guide are possible.
