What is Mometasone furoate nasal spray?

Mometasone Nasal Spray is used to relieve symptoms caused by hay fever and seasonal allergic rhinitis and contains a corticosteroid mometasone. Mometasone treats symptoms such as inflammation in the nose, nasal congestion, runny nose, itching, sneezing, sinus discomfort, and watery eyes.

How does it work?

Mometasone Nasal Spray contains a corticosteroid that helps by reducing inflammation and symptoms of allergic reactions including swelling, redness and itching. The spray reduces mucus and swelling in the nose, by blocking the effects of inflammatory leukotrienes and cytokines. It has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in both early and late-stage allergic reactions. Upon administration, it may not exhibit its effectiveness immediately. It can take up to 4-5 days of consistent use or sometimes longer for it to exhibit its effects against allergies.  

Is Mometasone Nasal Spray right for you?

Mometasone Nasal Spray is used to relieve symptoms of hay fever. However, it is not suitable for you if you have;

• Tuberculosis (now or in the past)
• Any other infection (such as of the nose or throat)
• Cystic fibrosis
• If you are immunocompromised 
• Persistent irritation of throat or nose

Recommended Dosage for Mometasone Nasal Spray

The regular dose is TWO sprays in each nostril, once daily. It may take up to a week for it to be effective. Also, it needs to be used daily to get continual relief from symptoms of conditions such as allergic rhinitis.  

The prescriber may advise you to use a dose other than the mentioned dose depending on individual symptoms. Follow recommendations of healthcare provider.
