Cyproheptadine is a medication found in Periactin. This is a member of the class of drugs known as "antihistamines." Serotonin and histamine are produced in excess in some disorders. Your body naturally produces them. By blocking the negative effects of histamine and serotonin, Periactin aids in the treatment of various diseases.

Uses for Periactin include:
Eczema, nettle rash, and skin allergies that cause itching, swelling, or red skin
Chickenpox itchiness and responses to insect bites and stings
An allergy-related sneeze, watery eyes, and clogged or runny nose (allergic rhinitis)
Allergic conjunctivitis characterized by red, watery, and irritated eyes
headaches that are similar to migraines

Directions
The recommended oral dosage for Periactin is as follows:
due to allergies
Start with 1 tablet three times per day for adults and children over 14 years old.
Typically, patients require 3–4 pills each day.
Take no more than eight pills each day.

How to take

Periactin should be taken orally following these guidelines:

For Allergies:
- Adults and children over 14 years: Begin with 1 tablet three times daily. Most patients require 3-4 tablets daily. Do not exceed 8 tablets per day.
- Children aged 7-14 years: Typically, 1 tablet two or three times daily as needed. If an additional dose is necessary, administer it at bedtime. Do not exceed 4 tablets per day.
- Children aged 2-6 years: Typically, half a tablet two or three times daily. If an additional dose is necessary, administer it at bedtime. Do not exceed 3 tablets per day.

For Migraine:
- Take 1 tablet at the onset of a migraine. If needed, take another tablet after 30 minutes. Then, take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours to maintain relief. Do not exceed 2 tablets in any 4-6 hour period.

Children under 2 years:
- Do not administer Periactin to children under 2 years of age.

Avoid using Periactin if: You have an allergy to cyproheptadine or any other component of Periactin. You are on monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) for depression, such as meclobemide, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, linezolid, or pargyline. You have a stomach opening constriction. You have glaucoma. You are undergoing treatment for an asthma attack. You are elderly with limited mobility. You have difficulty urinating. You have a stomach ulcer. You have rare hereditary issues with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. You intend to use Periactin for lower respiratory tract symptoms, including acute asthma. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Periactin if: You are pregnant or breastfeeding. You are taking MAO inhibitors, alcohol, or CNS depressants (e.g., hypnotics, sedatives, tranquilizers, and antianxiety medications), or drugs for anxiety (e.g., diazepam, alprazolam). You are using drugs with anti-serotonin activity, such as cyproheptadine. You have a history of bronchial asthma, increased eye pressure, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, or high blood pressure. You plan to perform tasks requiring motor skills and alertness, like driving or operating machinery. You have high blood pressure or heart issues. You have been informed by your doctor that you cannot tolerate or digest certain sugars. Do not give to children under two years old. Antihistamines may reduce alertness; in young children, they may sometimes cause excitement. Overdosing on antihistamines, especially in infants and children, can lead to severe side effects.
