Description
What are the Accu-Chek Test Strips?
Accu-Chek test strips are an important tool in the management of diabetes. These are particularly effective when used with an Accu-Chek blood glucose meter. These strips are very easy to handle and help you monitor your blood glucose levels comfortably.
How do these strips work?
These strips measure the blood glucose in the peripheral blood. A strip absorbs the blood from the fingertips, and the meter uses electrical pulses to detect the glucose in the blood. So, it is a reliable self-testing tool.
Are the Accu-Chek Test Strips suitable for me?
It is useful for monitoring glucose levels in children and adults. However, it is not an accurate measure and is just used for supervision.

Additional Information
The limitations of Accu-Check Performa Test Strips are;
These strips don't substitute for the more accurate glucose tests and give you an estimate of the glucose levels. It would help if you still had blood glucose testing for accurate measurement.
Directions
The Accu-Chek Performa Test Strips are compatible with the performa nano blood glucose meter. Read instructions carefully before use.

How long do the Accu-Check strips remain effective?
Different manufacturers give different periods. However, these strips are normally effective for 1.5-2 years starting from the manufacturing date.
What if I use expired strips?
Check the expiry date on the label before using it. The expired strips should be discarded as they can give unreliable and inaccurate results because the enzymes in these strips are likely to be broken down.
What conditions can result in false higher results in the strips?
Various conditions, e.g., changes in blood parameters, extremes of environment, or the presence of higher levels of certain drugs in the blood, can disturb the results and give false higher results. An important issue concerning the results is the inaccurate dosing of insulin.
Do I need to change the lancet every time?
Yes. The researchers and practitioners recommend that a new lancet should be used for each test. A used lancet can be contaminated and can give false results.
Are the Accu-Check strips best for glucose testing?
These strips are among the best tools for glucose testing. Various studies have found the effectiveness of Accu-Check strips between 95-98%.
How often would I need to replace the glucose meter?
A glucose meter is effective for up to 4-5 years. It would be best if you ideally replaced it after this time.
Is the first drop of blood good for testing?
No. You need to discard the first drop of blood as it could be contaminated with the alcohol used before using the lancet. However, some new meters are available in the market, that promise accurate results even with the first drop of blood.
Can I squeeze the finger to collect more blood?
The researchers and practitioners advise avoiding squeezing the finger for blood collection. Some studies have linked this practice to low sugar values during testing.
