Description of Zelleta
Zelleta as a Contraception
Zelleta is a progesterone-only pill (POP) that contains the progestogen desogestrel. A POP, or mini-pill, is different to other types of birth control pills known as combined pills which contain oestrogen. Zelleta is a medication that, when taken correctly, can be up to 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.
Progesterone-only pills are a suitable alternative for people who cannot take oestrogen such as when breastfeeding, if you smoke or if you are overweight.
What is Zelleta and how does it work?
The Zelleta pill contains a synthetic hormone known as desogestrel. Mini pills work by preventing sperm cells from entering the womb by thickening the lining of the cervix. Zelleta is slightly different from other POPs as for most people, it contains a high enough dose to prevent the egg cell from ripening.

If you are looking for an effective oral contraceptive, Zelleta may be right for you. However, it may not be suitable for you if you have the following:

- If you have ever had a blood clot or are at risk of a blood clot
