What causes acid reflux?

Some foods may cause acid reflux, these include high-fat foods (fried or fast foods), citrus, tomatoes, onions, coffee, mint and soda. Other conditions such as anxiety, asthma, IBS or even pregnancy, are also thought to be linked to acid reflux. A high alcohol consumption has also been linked to a higher likelihood of acid reflux.

What can I do to help my acid reflux?

Acid reflux happens when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) doesn't close or tighten properly after you swallow. To lessen the likelihood of acid reflux, you can lessen the number of large meals you eat frequently, and avoid lying down soon after you've finished eating.

Acid Reflux Treatment Explained

"Acid reflux occurs when excess stomach acid is climbing up into your oesophagus (food pipe). This can cause mixed symptoms, including heartburn, chest pain, and regurgitation. Too much acid reflux can lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease or GORD. This disease is a common problem affecting millions worldwide and is becoming more common in developed countries."
