What is Dovonex Ointment?

Dovonex Ointment (Calcipotriol) is a treatment used to reduce flare-ups and itchy skin caused by Psoriasis. Dovonex contains calcipotriol and a form of Vitamin D, both ingredients help reduce skin growth and improve symptoms.

Description of Dovonex Ointment

Dovonex Ointment is used for treating psoriasis and contains the active ingredient calcipotriol. Dovonex Ointment is a type of vitamin D that helps control skin cell growth. 

How does it work?

Dovonex Ointment works by controlling how the skin cells grow, reducing the skin cell production, which helps those suffering from psoriasis. Psoriasis causes the skin to develop red and scaly, sliver-coloured patches. Dovonex Ointment reduces symptoms caused by the condition. 

Is Dovonex Ointment right for you?

Dovonex Ointment is used to relieve symptoms of psoriasis However, it is not suitable for you if you have;

  • erythrodermic
  • guttate
  • pustular or exfoliative psoriasis
  • severe kidney or liver problems
  • hypercalcaemia

Dosage of Dovonex Ointment

Recommended Dosage for Dovonex Ointment

 

The regular dose the severity of the condition that is being treated, usually the ointment is applied once or twice daily for an adult. 

Always follow the recommendations of a healthcare provider.

Side Effects of Dovonex Ointment

All medications can cause potential side effects, below we have listed some of the commonly reported side effects:

  • allergic reaction
  • worsening of psoriasis
  • difficulty breathing
  • severe rash
  • skin irritation; blistering or bleeding
  • face swelling (around the eyes)

How to use Dovonex Ointment?

Always use Dovonex Ointment exactly as prescribed by your doctor or as advised by the pharmacist. 

  • Remove the cap and break the seal from the Dovonex Ointment tube.
  • Wash your hands and gently apply a thick layer of the Dovonex Ointment on the affected areas with psoriasis.
  • After using Dovonex Ointment  continue wash your hands thoroughly to avoid spreading the medication to unaffected areas. 
  • Keep skin moisturised and if use moisturiser before applying Dovonex Ointment, allow it to soak into the skin before applying the medicine.
