What is Betamethasone Cream and Ointment?

This cream and ointment contain betamethasone as the active ingredient which is a topical corticosteroid. It is effective for the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis. Besides the active ingredient, the cream also contains white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide, cetostearyl alcohol, purified water, etc.

How does it work?

Betamethasone is a corticosteroid that works to inhibit the body's inflammatory chemical response to an allergen or irritation. Betamethasone works by binding to specific receptors in the skin cells and inhibiting the production of inflammatory substances, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. By reducing inflammation, it can relieve symptoms such as itching and redness and promote healing of the affected skin.

Is the Betamethasone Cream and ointment suitable for me?

Betamethasone is a very useful treatment option in the treatment of certain inflammatory skin conditions. However, it should not used if the following applies:

• If you are allergic to Betamethasone or any other of the ingredients
• to apply on infected skin
• continuous long term use 
• apply on thin or fragile skin
• itchy skin that is not inflamed

Commonly Used Dosage Guidelines

Betamethasone is a potent steroid

• Apply thinly once or twice a day to the affected area(s) for a maximum of 7-10 days or as advised by the doctor.
• Apply only a thin layer of the cream/ointment.   
• Please refer to the prescriber's instructions and the information leaflet to know how much to apply on the affected area.
• Wash your hands before and after using the medicine.
