What is Desogestrel?
Desogestrel tablets contain Desogestrel, a synthetic analogue to the female reproductive hormone progesterone. It is, therefore, a progesterone-only pill used for contraception. It is a good contraceptive option for women who are breastfeeding or are not comfortable with the oestrogen in the combined pills.
How does it work?
Although it is a novel contraceptive, it works similarly to the old contraceptives. The hormone prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation and thickening of the cervical mucus.
Is Desogestrel suitable for me?
These ''mini-pills" are suitable for adult women of reproductive age who want contraception without the side effects of the combined pills. Consult the gynaecologist before using it if you have any reproductive health issues.
