Fucidin Cream

What is Fucidin Cream?

Fucidin cream contains an antibiotic Fusidic acid 2%, sometimes also referred to as sodium fusidate. It can be used to treat conditions of the skin such as impetigo, cellulitis and eye infections such as conjunctivitis. It is also available as topical ointment and in a gel form for ocular use. 

How does it work?

Fusidic acid inhibits the bacterial growth by interfering with protein synthesis that is required for the growth and proliferation of bacteria. It belongs to a group of antibiotics which are effective against Staphylococcus bacteria. It needs to be applied on the affected area 3 to 4 times a day for it to be effective. 

Is Fucidin cream suitable for me?

• It is not suitable for long-term use (usually longer than 10 days)

• Do not use if you have had an allergic reaction to Fusidic acid or any of its other ingredients

Fucidin is usually applied on the site of infection 3 to 4 times a day or as per the prescriber’s instructions. It is usually used for up to a duration of 10 days, unless specifically advised by the prescriber to use it for a longer duration.
