Description
Cerelle as a Contraception
Cerelle is a progestogen-only birth control pill, also known as a POP or mini-pill. The Cerelle pill works to prevent pregnancy and regulate menstruation symptoms while reducing monthly bleeding
Progesterone-only pills are a suitable alternative for people who cannot take oestrogen such as when breastfeeding, if you smoke or if you are overweight.
What is Cerelle and how does it work?
The Cerelle pill contains the synthetic hormone desogestrel and works to thicken the cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to penetrate the womb. Cerelle is slightly different than other progesterone-only pills as in most cases, it contains a high enough dose to prevent the egg from ripening. As such, Cerelle is highly effective contraception when taken correctly.
