Cerelle is a contraceptive pill which prevents the female body from ovulating, therefore decreases the possibility of pregnancies. It is a progesterone only contraception option known as the mini-pill, with a 12 hour missed-pill window.
What is Cerelle?
Cerelle is a progestogen-only birth control pill. It contains only the progestogens usually found in contraceptive pills. The pill works to prevent pregnancy and regulate menstruation symptoms while reducing monthly bleeding. It is a new version of this progesterone-only pill also known as a 'mini pill' which is designed to give the individual more flexibility to take their contraception with a 12-hour missed-pill window.
How does it work?
The pill works to thicken the cervical mucus making it more difficult for sperm to penetrate the womb. As a progesterone-only pill, it also prevents the release of the egg which stops ovulation and the risk of pregnancy.
Is Cerelle right for me?
Progesterone-only pills are suitable for people who cannot take oestrogen such as when breastfeeding, if you smoke or if you are overweight.

It contains two hormones, estrogen and progestin, which work together to prevent ovulation and keep the uterus from becoming lined with thickened tissue, which can lead to pregnancy. Cerelle also thins the blood and may help to protect against ovarian cancer. It is available by prescription only.
