Hepatitis A Antibodies IgG & IgM
Hepatitis A antibodies are proteins that the body produces in response to the hepatitis A virus. There are two types of hepatitis A antibodies: IgG and IgM.
IgG antibodies are the most common type of hepatitis A antibody. They develop after a person has been infected with the virus and typically remain in the body for life. IgG antibodies provide protection against future infection with the virus.
IgM antibodies are less common than IgG antibodies. They develop early on during an infection and typically disappear within six months. However, some people may continue to produce low levels of IgM antibodies for up to a year after infection.
Both IgG and IgM antibodies can be detected through a blood test. A positive result indicates that a person has been exposed to the hepatitis A virus at some point in their life.
Hepatitis A antibodies are important for two main reasons. First, they can be used to diagnose an infection with the virus. Second, they can be used to determine if a person is immune to the virus.
If you have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus, it is important to get tested for hepatitis A antibodies. This will help your doctor determine the best course of treatment and protect you from future infections.
Symptoms
Symptoms of Hepatitis A include:
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
- Fatigue
- Dark urine
- Abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite
If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor right away. Hepatitis A can be a serious infection, so early diagnosis and treatment are essential.
