Dosage guidelines: A 1 mmol/l drop in serum potassium indicates a loss of about 100-200 mmol of potassium. Serum potassium below 2 mmol/l may require intravenous therapy. For levels between 2-3 mmol/l, a maximum of 100-200 mmol K+ (8-16 tablets) daily is suggested. For levels between 3-4 mmol/l, a maximum of 50-100 mmol K+ (4-8 tablets) daily is recommended.
