L-histidine is one of the nine essential amino acids and is obtained from protein foods such as meat, fish, dairy, eggs and legumes. In the body it is a constituent of proteins including haemoglobin, a precursor of histamine and a component of the dipeptides carnosine and anserine found in muscle. There are no EFSA-authorised health claims for L-histidine; the product is offered simply as a measured source of the amino acid.
