How does Synthroid work?
Synthroid functions by substituting for the thyroid's natural production of the thyroxine hormone. In people who have had their thyroid gland removed or who have hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid doesn't produce enough of the hormone, Synthroid replaces the hormone. Goiters, which are enlarge thyroid glands, are also treated with Synthroid. Synthroid functions by substituting for the thyroid's natural production of the thyroxine hormone.
