Canesten Cream – is an Antifungal cream which is used to treat fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, fungal nappy rash, and fungal sweat rash. It is also used to soothe the irritation of the end of the penis or the vulva (external thrush), which may be related to thrush.

Clotrimazole is the active substance in Canesten Cream. Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent that belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles and which fights the cause of skin fungal infections.

INGREDIENTS
The Cream contains: The active substance is clotrimazole at a strength of 1% w/w and the other ingredients are benzyl alcohol, sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, cetyl palmitate, and purified water.

Do not use Canesten Cream for Athletes Foot if you (or your baby if treating nappy rash) are allergic (hypersensitive) to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of Canesten Cream.

This product contains cetostearyl alcohol which may cause local skin irritation (e.g. rash, itching or redness).

As with other creams, Canesten Cream may reduce the effectiveness of rubber contraceptives, such as condoms or diaphragms. Consequently, if you are using this cream on the vulva or penis, you should use alternative precautions for at least five days after using this product.

If you are pregnant, breast-feeding or trying for a baby, tell your doctor or midwife before using Canesten Cream. If you have informed your doctor or midwife already, follow his/her instructions carefully.

It is important to treat thrush during pregnancy, as evidence shows that it could be passed onto your baby (in the form of oral thrush or other fungal infections) through your birth canal when giving birth. If you are pregnant and think you may have thrush, please visit your doctor.
