Description
Rigevidon as a Contraception
Rigevidon is a form of combined contraception that is taken to prevent unwanted pregnancy for women. It is an oral birth control pill to be taken consecutively for 21 days with a 7-day break or alternatively, depending on your consultation with the GP or doctor. This is a reversible and reliable birth control pill (when taken correctly) and can also help alleviate symptoms of menstruation.
What is Rigevidon and how does it work?
The pill contains a low dose of two synthetic versions of the female hormones progesterone (levonorgestrel) and oestrogen (ethinylestradiol). As a combination pill, it works in three ways, by altering the lining of the womb, stopping an ovary from being released and making it more difficult for sperm to reach an egg by thickening the mucus.

Additional Information
Rigevidon Contraceptive Pills
Rigevidon is manufactured by British pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
Contraceptive pills work by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). They also thicken the mucus in the cervix, making it difficult for sperm to penetrate and fertilise an egg. When taken properly, the drug is effective at helping prevent pregnancy. Rigevidon can be used if your period feels extremely heavy. Rigevidon contains progesterone and ethinylstrogen and when taken properly can provide up to 90% of the recommended doses.
How to take Rigevidon?
Each daily dose is covered by tablets. It is best if you try the pill once every two hours. It is usually easiest to take this last thing in the evening or first thing in the evening. Take 2-4 capsules and wash well in hot water when required. Each pack contains one memo strip of 21 coated tablets and three memo strips of 21 coated tablets. Memostrips were made to keep you on your medication. Each package contains a date on which to start a new medication. The instructions on the arrow on the pack should give you an oral capsule each day. You'll be allowed 7 days without taking any pills.
How does it work?
During menstrual periods women will release eggs each time. During pregnancy ethylestradiol - ethyl - is a drug which inhibits the formation of the ovary. These synthetics resemble oestrogen or testosterone and contain synthetic versions. If you take these medications daily it's possible that your hormone is acting as though your ovaries are already occurring. Additionally, the hormone thickens the mucus in the womb thereby making the sperm less likely to get to egg. The uterine walls change so the fertilised eggs don't implant, which is important for preventing pregnancy in women.
How do I take Rigevidon?
Rigevidon is a monophasic pill that consists of different amounts of hormone. One pill a day can last 21 days followed by one day break. The next pill pack can be taken after the 14 day pill free period, irrespective of the withdrawal bleeding. For convenience they can be supplied in numbered calendar packs which identify days of the week and allows the user to keep one daily. You should take this medication once a day.

How does Rigevidon work?
