Description

Rigevidon as a Contraception

Rigevidon is a form of combined contraception that is taken to prevent unwanted pregnancy for women. It is an oral birth control pill to be taken consecutively for 21 days with a 7-day break or alternatively, depending on your consultation with the GP or doctor. This is a reversible and reliable birth control pill (when taken correctly) and can also help alleviate symptoms of menstruation.

What is Rigevidon and how does it work?

The pill contains a low dose of two synthetic versions of the female hormones progesterone (levonorgestrel) and oestrogen (ethinylestradiol). As a combination pill, it works in three ways, by altering the lining of the womb, stopping an ovary from being released and making it more difficult for sperm to reach an egg by thickening the mucus.

Is Rigevidon right for me?

If you are looking for an effective oral contraceptive, Rigevidon may be right for you. However, it may not be suitable for you if you have the following:

  • If you are allergic to ethinylestradiol or levonorgestrel or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • If you have ever had a blood clot or are at risk of a blood clot
  • If you have severe heart, liver or kidney problems
  • If you have high or low blood pressure
  • If you have ever had a migraine with aura
  • If you are suspected of having cancer of the womb, vagina, breast or cervix
  • If you have unexplained bleeding from the vagina

Additional Information

Rigevidon Contraceptive Pills

Rigevidon is manufactured by British pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

Contraceptive pills work by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). They also thicken the mucus in the cervix, making it difficult for sperm to penetrate and fertilise an egg. When taken properly, the drug is effective at helping prevent pregnancy. Rigevidon can be used if your period feels extremely heavy. Rigevidon contains progesterone and ethinylstrogen and when taken properly can provide up to 90% of the recommended doses.

How to take Rigevidon?

Each daily dose is covered by tablets. It is best if you try the pill once every two hours. It is usually easiest to take this last thing in the evening or first thing in the evening. Take 2-4 capsules and wash well in hot water when required. Each pack contains one memo strip of 21 coated tablets and three memo strips of 21 coated tablets. Memostrips were made to keep you on your medication. Each package contains a date on which to start a new medication. The instructions on the arrow on the pack should give you an oral capsule each day. You'll be allowed 7 days without taking any pills.

How does it work?

During menstrual periods women will release eggs each time. During pregnancy ethylestradiol - ethyl - is a drug which inhibits the formation of the ovary. These synthetics resemble oestrogen or testosterone and contain synthetic versions. If you take these medications daily it's possible that your hormone is acting as though your ovaries are already occurring. Additionally, the hormone thickens the mucus in the womb thereby making the sperm less likely to get to egg. The uterine walls change so the fertilised eggs don't implant, which is important for preventing pregnancy in women.

How do I take Rigevidon?

Rigevidon is a monophasic pill that consists of different amounts of hormone. One pill a day can last 21 days followed by one day break. During 7 days of breaks hormone level drops and there will also be an induced withdrawal of blood which will look a bit like regular periods. The next pill pack can be taken after the 14 day pill free period, irrespective of the withdrawal bleeding. For convenience they can be supplied in numbered calendar packs which identify days of the week and allows the user to keep one daily. You should take this medication once a day.

What is Rigevidon?

Rigevidon is a combination of oral contraceptives. You can also refer to this medication. This is the most widely known form of contraceptive treatment that is effective more than 90% of the time if used properly. Rigevidon is a generic form for Microgynaeon. Generics are similar to brands. There's no difference in name or price. Rigevidon provides a benefit in reducing recurring pain for women suffering from severe periods. Please remember that the medication isn't effective in stopping your sex infection - just a condom does the same job for that.

Rigevidon and cancer

Avoid using this medication for breast or other cancers you've had before. In fact, hormonal contraceptives can increase breast cancer risks. If you stop taking Pills for ten years, your risk is reduced. Women older and overweight are more susceptible to breast cancer. Make sure to use Rigevidon if you know your close friend has had breast cancer previously. Check your breasts or nipple periodically to see if they are changing or are lumpy. If something is abnormal, see a doctor immediately. Rigevidon increases your risk of developing the disease.

How does Rigevidon work?

Rigevidon tablets contain 2 active components, ethinyl estradiol and lenovorterol. These synthetics mimic the natural female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone. Ethinylestradiols are a synthetic form of oestrogen and levonorgestrels are the synthetic form of progesterone. Combining oral contraceptives such as Rigevidon works to bypass regular menstruation. In women's normal menstrual cycles hormones change from month to month. The hormone helps the egg to clobber in the womb.

Tell me the best time to take Rigevidon?

Rigevidon starts the first day of your menstrual cycle which is the first day of your period. It protects pregnant women immediately. It starts from Day Five without a prescription for contraception. It might be difficult to get immediate contraceptive coverage from the doctors if you suffer from short menstrual cycles. Rigevidon will work in the future if you don't have any pregnancy.

What are possible side effects?

Rigevidon is often associated with some health issues. This reaction is most common. It doesn't mean you have it all at once. However the effects of combining contraceptive tablets are variable. Do you have symptoms and want immediate help? Take fewer pills and consult a medical practitioner immediately if a reaction occurs. Symptoms are swollen throat and skin and difficulty breathing.

Rigevidon is usually taken for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break. During this break, you will experience a 'withdrawal bleed', which is similar to a regular period.

You can start taking Rigevidon on the first day of your period, or at any other time during your cycle. If you start taking the pill at any other time, you will need to use additional contraception (such as condoms) for the first 7 days.

Rigevidon is available free of charge on the NHS. You can also buy it from pharmacies and supermarkets without a prescription, although prices may vary.
