Warnings

Nytol should not be used by individuals allergic to diphenhydramine or any of its ingredients, or those with conditions like stenosing peptic ulcer or pyloroduodenal obstruction. Caution is advised for patients with myasthenia gravis, epilepsy, narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention, asthma, bronchitis, COPD, moderate to severe liver or kidney impairment. Continuous use may lead to tolerance. If sleeplessness continues, consult a doctor as it may indicate a serious condition. Avoid alcohol as it may enhance its effects. Do not use other antihistamine products, including topical ones and cold medicines. Elderly patients are more prone to side effects and should use it cautiously, especially if confused. Those with rare hereditary issues like galactose intolerance should not take this medicine. Keep away from children. Diphenhydramine can increase the sedative effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants. MAOIs can prolong its anticholinergic effects, so use caution if taken with or within two weeks of stopping an MAOI. Diphenhydramine's antimuscarinic activity may enhance the effects of certain anticholinergic drugs, so seek medical advice before combining them. It inhibits the CYP2D6 enzyme, potentially interacting with drugs metabolized by it, like metoprolol and venlafaxine. Avoid use with these drugs unless directed by a doctor. During pregnancy, diphenhydramine crosses the placenta, and its safety is unknown, so it is not recommended. Consult a doctor before use. It is also found in breast milk, and its effects on infants are unknown, so it is not recommended during lactation. Nytol causes drowsiness and may impair driving or operating machinery. Overdose may lead to symptoms like mydriasis, fever, agitation, and more severe effects like rhabdomyolysis and cardiovascular collapse. Treatment should focus on symptoms, with parenteral diazepam for convulsions and CNS stimulation.
