Nardil
An MAOI that is used to treat depression is called Nardil (phenelzine). It functions by preventing the breakdown of monoamines, which are neurotransmitters important for controlling mood. Although it has been demonstrated that Nardil is effective in treating depression, it also has a number of undesirable side effects, such as drowsiness, headaches, and dry mouth. If you are also taking an SSRI or another MAOI, you should avoid taking Nardil. Nardil should not be taken if you are pregnant or nursing.
