Description

Eloine as a Contraception

Eloine is a combined contraceptive pill that contains low doses of the oestrogen hormones ethinylestradiol and the progestogen hormone drospirenone. It is an affordable, reliable and popular birth control pill available for people 18 years and older. Eloine has several differences compared to other contraceptive pills. As it contains a lower dose of the oestrogen hormone, the side effects are not as strong as they are on other contraceptive pills. It is also easier to take as it is taken every day for four weeks without a break.

What is Eloine and how does it work?

The hormones in the Eloine pill make the body believe that it has already ovulated and will then not ovulate again. It also increases the mucus in the lining of the womb which makes it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg.

Eloine is not intended for use by women who have not had their first period yet, or for those who have had menopause.

Is Eloine right for me?

If you are looking for an effective oral contraceptive, Eloine may be right for you. However, it may not be suitable for you if you have the following:

  • If you are allergic to ethinylestradiol or drospirenone, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • If you have ever had a blood clot or are at risk of a blood clot
  • If you have severe heart, liver or kidney problems
  • If you have high or low blood pressure
  • If you have ever had a migraine with aura
  • If you are suspected of having breast cancer or cancer of the genital organs
  • If you have unexplained bleeding from the vagina
  • If you are taking medication for hepatitis C

Side Effects

All medications can cause potential side effects, below we have listed some potential side effects of Eloine. However, these do not always occur and are mostly mild in nature. But if you experience any prolonged or worrying side effects of Eloine, please discontinue the medication immediately and consult your doctor.

Common side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Mood swings
  • Breast pain
  • Irregular periods
  • Absence of periods
  • Headaches

Additional Information

When taken correctly, Eloine can be 99% effective at preventing pregnancy but also may reduce the risk of potential side effects due to the lower dose of oestrogen.

Dosage

Always take Eloine exactly as prescribed by your doctor or advised by the pharmacist.

  • Eloine should be taken every day for 28 days
  • There are two different coloured tablets in each strip. Take a light pink tablet for the first 24 days and then a white tablet for the last 4 days.
  • Take your pill at the same time every day
  • After you've finished a strip, you must then start a new strip straight away, there is no gap between the two strips
  • Because of the formula, it is necessary to begin with the first tablet on the upper left and that you follow the direction of the arrows on the strip.
  • Start by taking a pill marked with the correct day of the week
  • It can be taken with or without food, if necessary with a small amount of water
  • You must not take Eloine if you are pregnant
  • It is not advised to take Eloine while breast-feeding
