What Is Lymecycline Used For?

Lymecycline capsules are recommended for different infections.
The discovery of new antibiotics has revolutionised antibiotic treatment. Gradually, several classes of antibiotics have emerged which are prescribed for different types of infections.
Lymecycline is an antibiotic of the tetracycline group. Just like other antibiotics, it Is used to treat bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting the protein synthesis mechanisms of bacteria. It is much more stable than other tetracycline antibiotics and is also absorbed more rapidly.
It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic and is used for different infections. It is used both for systemic (Tetralysal capsules) as well as topical treatments. Unlike many other antibiotics, it doesn't create any problems, so you can drink alcohol while taking it. It is mostly recommended to treat acne. However, it is also used for the treatment of;
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
Infections around or in the mouth
Sinus and chest infections
Skin breakouts e.g., acne.
It is also used for other infections of the respiratory system e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia etc...
Trachoma (a type of conjunctivitis)
Infections transmitted by insects e.g., tick fever, Q fever, Coxiella Endocarditis, typhus group, rocky mountain spotted fever.
However, taking lymecycline is not recommended in the following situations e.g.,
If you are pregnant
If you are feeding a mother as its residues are found in the breast milk
If you are under 12
If you have kidney or liver problems
If you are having other infections e.g., systemic lupus erythematosus or muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
If you experience an allergic reaction to it (develops a skin rash etc...).
If you are taking any other medications (extra label or on prescription),
The Propionibacterium acnes is among the most important acne-causing bacteria. It grows on the sebum secreted from your sebaceous glands. It produces acids and other waste products which cause inflammation of the sebaceous glands and cause acne. The dead skin cells also enter the skin pores, further deteriorating the situation.
Taking lymecycline helps by controlling the number of bacterial cells. It thus promotes the healing of the skin. A 2021 study found that oral lymecycline treats acne as effective as zinc sulphate ointment.
The safe use of a drug depends on a number of factors. Keep the following things in mind before choosing lymecycline;
It is a prescription drug and should be used only at the suggestion of a doctor.
It has a long half-life of approximately 10 hours. Only one dose a day is enough for acne and two doses a day are required to treat infections.
The unwanted and extra-label use can cause side effects e.g., headache, diarrhoea, stomach pain, eyesight disturbances, vomiting and generalised weakness. The doctor can recommend indigestion remedies with it.
A tetracycline antibiotic increases your sensitivity to sunlight. Therefore, you shouldn't use sunbathe or sunlamp with it. If your occupation exposes you to the sun, use a cloth or a sunblock to avoid problems.
It doesn't interfere with alcohol as long as you are using alcohol only moderately.
It can be taken with water on an empty or full stomach. The mineral supplements containing iron, aluminium, zinc, magnesium, etc... shouldn't be used with it as these medications decrease its absorption from the gut.
Lymecycline capsule is used to treat acne and other infections. However, keep an eye on the side effects and seek medical attention immediately if you experience the side effects.
