Brand Origins

Clearasil was founded in the United States in 1950 by Ivan Combe, an entrepreneur dedicated to creating effective personal-care products. Collabourating with chemist Kedzie Teller, Combe developed Clearasil as the first dermatological brand specifically formulated for younger skin to combat acne and pimples. The original formulation included sulfur and resorcinol, ingredients known for their acne-fighting properties.

Over the years, Clearasil changed ownership multiple times. In 1960, the brand was acquired by Richardson-Vicks, which was later purchased by Procter & Gamble in 1985. In 2000, Clearasil became part of the Boots Group portfolio, and since 2006, it has been owned by Reckitt Benckiser, a British multinational consumer goods company.
