What is Mefloquine (Lariam)?
Mefloquine is an active ingredient that can treat and prevent malaria. It works by killing the parasites that may cause or have caused malaria. Travellers are often advised to take it when travelling to high-risk malaria areas.

What is Mefloquine?
Mefloquine is a medication used to treat and prevent malaria. Malaria is a disease that is passed on from person to person through mosquito bites.
How does it work?
This antimalarial is able to treat and prevent malaria in areas where the disease has developed an immunity to other malaria medication. The active ingredient mefloquine hydrochloride stops the parasite from reproducing and causing further harm to the body.
Is Mefloquine suitable for me?
Malaria is a serious health risk when travelling to some areas including South-East Asia, Africa, Central and South America, some Pacific Islands and parts of the Middle East.
Dosage
Commonly Used Dosage Guidelines for Mefloquine.
For tablets: one tablet weekly on the same day of the week, started 10 days before entering the malaria zone and continued for 4 weeks after leaving.
